Hello all, So I searched and could not find a clear answer and I am sure this is probably a novice question. So ever since getting my Robbe U47 in the water, I have always just kept the front dive planes pinned level. When I was designing my new tech rack I was thinking I was going to add a front servo to drive the front planes. Was always thinking I would just Y-cable it off the rear ones and just make sure I oriented it to swing them the opposite way. I have yet to install this and drive the sub this way. I have recently purchased an auto leveler and in looking into the best setup I have seen some people saying to place the front planes on a separate channel and not include them on the auto leveler, and some saying don’t do this, just pin the front planes and let the auto leveler do its job on the rear. I see that having the front on a separate channel seems like the auto leveler would be fighting and movement. So not sure what the best setup is. Advice? Thx in advance.

On all of my subs, the auto leveler is attached to the stern planes. I use a 6-channel radio with a rotary knob and a 3-position switch besides the standard two 2-axis sticks, On my two WWII subs (1/96th scale GATO and 1/72nd scale Type VIIC/41) the bow planes are controlled by the right stick up/down; and the stern planes are on a rotary knob. I can flip a mixing switch so both now and stern planes are controlled by the bow plane stick. I rarely operate with the bow and stern planes linked.
