I don't know much about that area, but I have heard Amsterdam is nice.
Better than the Albany area.
But I have no factual basis for this statement and will disavow any knowledge of this subject if asked!! BD.

someone told me schenectady had the 3rd highest crime rate in NY...guess where I am avoiding. Atleast KAPL has armed gaurds.

My cousin Donnie calls Albany the armpit of NY!!
But Amsterdam is very nice and laid back with old world charm.
But it is closer to Rochester so that may be a bad idea!! LOL!!!!!! BD.

closing the distance by 30 min. Alot of the homes in amsterdam are older victorian homes but there are some very nice ones. At least the community seems quiet enough. Guess i will know more when I drive up. I can see a lot of future tug battles sir!

I highly recommend the tour of the canals and the harbor. Also, the tourist section has some interesting bars. No, wait. That was Amsterdam, Netherlands. Well that's the only Amsterdam I've been to.

New opportunity post Navy Kevin? Congratulations. Hope you can make a living in the people's republic of New York.
When you feel like experiencing more economic and constitutional freedom, make your way out here to the midwest someday. The cost of living alone will make you a rich man. An 800-1200 sq. ft. house out there will cost the same as a 3500 sq. ft. house out here, and you get a yard with that too.

Actually the housing cost is really good in NY unless you are in or near NYC.
It's the tax's that suck!!!! BD.

Im eyebaling a 2800sqft colonial home that was recently renovated. The price tag is simply amazing. In groton this home would have beed 300k plus no problem. Seriously its the taxes and fees that make NY suck. I took a few stabs at jobs your way Pete. None of them could bring the payscale to the table.

On the plus side this house I am going to look at thursday has an oasis about 2 blocks up the road. I think there will have to be a meeting of clubs with lots of smoked meat and the sinking of one of daves tugs.

You only need half the pay in the Midwest to have twice the standard of living.....It is really expensive to live on either coast. It gets a bit more sane the further South of DC you go...but, dang it takes a lot of money to live there!
