Dive-in to Summer 2010

Submerge at St Albans. Date for the event is Sunday June 13th 2010 10am-4pm. Cheap bar, a nice sunny aspect with a 100ftx60ft pool of crystal clear water, and free on-site parking.

The pool will be filled earlier this year, so we should have it full to the brim this time round.

£5 per person in advance £1 spectators. £10 per person on the day, £2 spectators.

Any profits made will be refunded to those on the day, however those who pay and don't turn up will have to forfeit. This is only fair to those who make the effort to come along.

    Flyer to follow.

      Re: Dive-in to Summer 2010

Just a quick reminder to any UK submariners reading this (and any international members who may wish to attend) we are now about a month away from the event.

So far I have double the entrants of last year, and this time around we have some very experienced individuals in the model submarine field attending.

The pool has been scoured clean a fortnight ago, and has been steadily filling since then, so expect gin clear conditions.

      Hope to see you there!

You will be pleased to hear upon visiting St Albans Sub Aqua Club tonight, I found the pool filled to the brim and gin clear- perfect.

        Taken tonight.

        Another shot, note the 1]

You can see all the way to the bottom! (9 feet)

The bar is well stocked, with real ale and lagers on draft, soft drinks and spirits for those who prefer to preserve their waistline! Bar snacks are also available, although I suggest you bring a packed lunch.

This will be my last posting before the event, so to those that have already signed up, see you there. To those who have been wavering, you have four more days to get your money to me to benefit from the reduced rate.

The weather forecast is showing high pressure, so fingers crossed the sun will be shining on the day. I will be there from 9]http://www.subcommittee.com/forum/icon_wink.gif[/img]

There will be some small topical road signs close to the venue, so keep your eyes peeled for the little black submarines which point the way.

Okay, this turned out to be a fantastic day with seventeen people turning up to sail, and quite a few spectators from our hosting scuba diving club.

I counted 24 boats on display, with a wide variety of subjects. The weather was bright, sunny and pleasantly warm.

Here are some pictures, I'm sure others will add to them.

It belongs to James Leddy (he's on the AMS Facebook). It is a balsa/wooden model, dynamic diver, scale-like, rather than scale.

Interesting pictures of that 1:1 sleeping beauty, I've not seen that one before. It has the hydrovanes at the front. I wonder if this was a modification to make handling more predictable?

I took those at the Royal Marines museum. Yes I have have seen pictures with planes in the front and at the rear on others. Not sure which one cames first...
