Pictures from the August 22-23 run in Houston

    I will label these later:

Matt Thor with that "I love the smell of Napalm in the morning" stance. Anticipating the morning's run.

    Point position

    Herman Park port view

    Herman Park starboard view

A look straight across. The bottom is visible all the way to the otehr side. The dark area in the middle/center is bottom detail at what seems to be the deepest point, approx 5 feet deep. The shadow of the subs against the bottom helped to gauge proximity to bottom.

Neil Stevens, owner of the Subsim site, came by to watch. A decent interest was shown from people who had seen fliers, website postings, and just walking by.

Paul setting up the navigation course

Mid-afternoon talent show across the pond......

We also had another entertainer show up across the pond for some song and guitar playing.

What's wrong with this picture? She was taken out of service immediately!

Don's Sturgeon makes a surface pass over an evading sub.

    A future project DeBor Seaview

The Crozier familey showed up at lunch to feed us all. Thank you!!!!

    Tom and his Scorpion

A young man brought his target to play, and spent some time, and interest, in the submarines. We gave them contact information and a copy of the Report.

Night Run at Discovery Green. Target vs Sub. We drew quite a crowd of onlookers.

Jeff's Blueback slips into the black for a partol.

Close pass. Good eyes for depth perception.

    I had a great time

I had a great time at Sun-N-Fun 2009. Thanks to Paul Crozier for putting on such a great event! This relecting pond is probably the finest venue I have ever seen for running subs. Lots of fun!

      Great time you guys had.

Great time you guys had. Wish I could have been there. Neal has a super sight www.subsim.com and I've been there for awhile posting my RC subs. Glad to see he made it out.

      Maybe next year for me!

        If you guys like that

If you guys like that pond, try making it up to Carmel if there's another SubRegatta there. From your photos, seems like Carmel is a little bit bigger and has a painted concrete bottom. Is that correct, Wayne? It is ideal.

But it's great that you guys now have something so nice close to home.

Pete, we've been there a couple of times. The Carmel pool is great.

What is nice about this one is it is deeper by a few feet in the middle and has no fountain. That keeps the sea state down.
          Warm regards,

                Those aren't name tags,

                Scott,

Those aren't name tags, they're custom event security ID badges.

                  I had a great time

I had a great time this weekend! Many thanks, Paul, for hosting us!

It was great to see everybody again! I think we had more working subs this year than the last one I attended. The heat did not dampen our spirits, and I think a good time was had by all.

The venue was absolutely wonderful. I've never been to Carmel, but I think Hermann Park would be hard to beat. Not only great for running subs, but so much other stuff right around the area for the rest of the family to enjoy.

                  Can't wait until next year!

                  Carl

                    Just goes to show you

Just goes to show you how important Subron5 is
needing security passes. I am planning to come
in 2010. I guess its not my style or good planning
to make it two years in a row. Now all I have to do
is come up with a Sub standard clearance to attend.

Now before some one else says it "We don't need no
stinking badges!" The security passes looked pretty
                    cool.

                      Scott,

We'd love to have you next year. Forget the clearance. Bring a sub!

                        Here are a few shots

Here are a few shots taken by Jeff Porteous:

Don Baker's Sturgeon underway. He and Matt got the boat dialed in. She really performs now. Don won the MVM award -- most valuable modeler. He brought two new boats, a Seehund and a Marder, and both ran well.

Left to right: Don Baker, Jeff Porteous, Matt Thor, Tom Kisler, Paul Crozier, Wayne Frey, Carl Dietz.
