Well my house is finally selling which means I get to buy my lathe finally.
You guys have any favorites, good values so on and so forth.
My only experience is with the taig lathe and the really expensive POS on the boat.

I have a Prazzie Lathe

I have a Prazzie Lathe from Germany.
Once I figured out how to use it (can`t read German) it is a great little Lathe.
Did I mention that I never used one before.
Found it used on Craigs list for shot money.
Now if I only had the milling attachment for it I would have all that I need for my work shop.

I thought I was buying

I thought I was buying a multi-position lathe on craig's list and next thing I knew a scantily-clad woman showed up at my front door. Turns out I bought a lay on craig's list. Thought it was kind of cheap for a lathe.

Graig`s list is like any thing else .
There are a lot of good people on there .
I have only delt with one really weird guy.
And I got a better deal because I delt with him.
I hate when you e-mail people and they don`t e-mail back.
Remember you can always get one of those china made hobby lathes for around 500.00 and buy the milling attachment for another 400.00 or so.
Since you are heading up this way there is a place in Stoughton Ma. that sells them.

If you can sniff out

If you can sniff out a local model engineering society, you'll often find good quality S/HG machines come up fro sale at keen prices.

If you have the space a larger machine is much nice to work with, and will give you more flexibility.

My Lathe cost £50. It's a Harrison gap bed that can swing 24" if need be. Overkill for subs, but there is no limit with a machine this size.



My Dore Westbury mill cost £100 and is much better than anything you'd get from China IMO.

That is a legal knock

That is a legal knock off of the Proxxon we talked about. It is a good machine just not as accurate. Eather way you go will be fine for the work we do. Your right the Proxxon is approx. $1000.00. Kevin with the Proxxon you can at a later date add a milling attachment for approx. $700.00

I have one of these lathes. Unless you are looking to do extremely exacting work (e.g. gunsmithing?), these are good value for the money plus there are lots of add-ons and such that can be used to enhance the base unit.

Yes the micro mark also offers the mill machine attachment aswell. I just dont know how toy use one.....yet.

DOes anyone have the taige website aswell. Need to make sure I check everything out. I even looked at harbor freight.

The Harbor Freight lathes and

The Harbor Freight lathes and mills are essentially the same products as the Micromark with one major difference: the Micromark units have true Imperial (inch) feedscrews while the Harbor Freight units are metric screws with (at best) re-labeled vernier dials that can cause some problems.

Of course, you could always buy upgrade kits from Micromark for the HB units.

There is one additional difference when it comes to the lathes. The MM unit is a 7x14 bed and the HB unit is a 7x10 or 7x12.
