    lets meet guys

    Gents,

It is time to have a meet. Please post some ideas as to location and date.

I would like to suggest the lake in Kingsland GA as the meeting place. It is in a new park and is spring feed and clear. there are restrooms and a table or two. Easy access to the water and resturants nearby. Not much for public viewing but it looks like real good sailing.

The park is called Gilligans Island if I am not msitaken. Warren Wilson was the gent who showed it to me. It is not hard to find and may not be actually called gilligans island by the GA park works dept.

    Respectfully,

Sounds good to me, but I'm currently without sub as I have had to pilfer parts and untill I complete the new 4 ft won't have a sub. Late Sept or early Oct good for me, I hope.

        Gents,

I think I can do Sept 22. I don't know who can make that date but I will be out of town from sept 29 thru oct 6.

        How about a location?

Also I must confess I don't have a sub right now but hope to have one up and running soon/asap.

            Sept 22

            Gents,

Warren Wilson said the park looks good as of yesterday 9-11-07. I vote for the 9-22 date as well. I'll look up the official address and post it.

With that in mind lets do a 10am time frame give or take a few minutes. This will allow those out of the area to get a little sleep before they have to drive.

Also lets make this a sub meet with a swap. Bring whatever you have working or not that you want to show and bring what you would like to sell and see if it will sell.

I will also send out an email to all contacts that I have with an invite.

                  Misc info

                  Guys,

I have not been able to to locate any info on the web as it is still a new park. Can anyone find any info? I did review map quest and if coming north on I 95 exit 40 east. Continue east on 40 about four miles and after you pass N gross rd (on left) there will be a small section of woods on the left also. On the right there will be a self storage type of place (white or Gray buildings). You will have to make the first left (u turn) at those white/Gray buildings and come back west about one half a block to enter the park.

I will call Warren and have him give me exact directions and post them asap. So look out for these. I suppose you could always ask a local shop or store where to go.

The water is spring feed as best Warren can determine from speaking to the park ranger. I have seen the water and it is clear and the shore has a gentle slope. The water gets deep fast though and at about three feet out it is three to four feet deep and clear. Picnic tables and shade trees are all around and I think that everyone should bring a chair and or table in case. I hope to bring an easy up quick shelter but my space is limited in a sports car.

                      Looking good for Sat

                      Guys,

Carcharadon posted a nice flyer type thing for us to review. One thing I forgeot mention is to bring some shoes that you can get wet. This is so that you can launch you boats. There is no "dock" the entire lake is sand all around and there is an Island in the middle that people swim out to.

                          Directions for the island

                          Gents,

Warren Wilson has provided some directions so here they are.

                          >From the South:

                          >From I-95 exit at GA #1, St. Marys Road, at flashing red light and right
                          turn, set odometer to zero.
Just after OSPREY COVE housing development, at 2.7 miles, exit at the top of
                          the overpass, marked with three different signs; Cumberland Island;
Historic St. Marys and SR 40. Turn RIGHT at light. At 3.4 miles there is
an unmarked, unimproved dirt like road to the right: TURN!
Note that this dirt like road is directly across from HIPPO storage facility
                          RV storage lot.

Note: At the exit from I-95 there are fueling and restaurant facilities.
Also back over the freeway are additional fueling stations and restaurants.

If you miss Exit #1 or want a larger variety of fuel stations or restaurants
continue to Exit #3. On the tight-curving portion bear LEFT, turn LEFT at
the light. Set odometer to zero, go 2.9 miles, follow directions below, as
                          if coming from the North.

                          >From the North:

                          >From I-95 exit at GA #3, SR 40, turn LEFT. Set odometer to zero.
Approaching 2.9 miles you will notice HIPPO Storage facility on the right.
When you are at the RV lot look left, you will see an unimproved dirt like
road, move to the left lane, do a left u-turn at the next turn indentation.
Turn onto the unmarked road to the RIGHT.

Note: This is the Kingsland exit and there are a number of fueling
stations, restaurants and stores on the way to the park. After the WAL*MART
center there are no significent facilities.

For September 22 I suggest that participants go into the park go left, past
the main lot and park in amongst the trees. There are a number of
Porta-A-Potties nearby. Tables are not close by, you may want to bring your
own. Swimming is popular and we will need to claim a portion of the lake
shore away from them. A vendor with kayaks for rent has been present
                          previously.

On the 15th water level was down a bit but the water was basically clear w/o
                          weeds.

                            I was planning to come

I was planning to come with or without sub but I was able to get enough of the new 4 foot together and working sufficiently so I'll bring that. So I'll see ya there.

Video of first sea trial at my favorite test pond. It was very windy, not the best conditions for its first run but I was too anxious to see if it worked. That's one good thing about a submarine you don't have to worry about waves sinking the boat.
