SubComEast to Support Scout Jamboree on May 19th

    Folks,

SubComEast has been approached by the director of the National Capital Area Council for the Boy Scouts with a request to support the upcoming Cub Scout Jamboree this weekend (Saturday, May 19th) at their new camp area in Haymarket, VA. This is going to be a huge event with lots of other activities and events for the Scouts.

In my conversations with the director, we have been offered an opportunity to showcase the r/c sub hobby using their large outdoor Olympic size pool. Since it's still a bit on the cool side, we'll have the pool to ourselves. In return for supporting this event, we are being offered access to the site for running our boats whenever there isn't a Scouting event planned. (yea!)

A group of us (Jim Butt, Andre Burgess, Don Finnerty, and I) are planning on supporting this request. I know this is late notice but if anyone would like to join us, please drop me an e-mail and I'll be glad to send details like directions, etc.

    -hope to see you there!

    Jeff,

This will be cool. The boys will love it and there should be plenty of dads who enjoy doing those kind of things as well. I'll be with my son's pack racing pinewood derby cars at the same time.

Just one word of advice: be patient.

    Warm regards,

      Paul,

I spent 6 years as a cub scout den mother. Patient? No problem.

I know what you mean. This is my sixth year in the pack, fourth as a den leader. Looking forward to the summer!

                I wish there was, but

I wish there was, but our fearless leader is still more or less AWOL.

Jim Butt and I have started looking into sites to run our boats, hopefully we'll have something in the near future.

                      We had a great time.

We had a great time. The site staff treated us very well and we were surrounded by kids interested in subs all day long. (by comparision, the r/c speed boats went virtually unused) The only "problem" we had was that we should have brought more batteries with us.......seems that the kids only understood full forward and full reverse.

Andre took a bunch of photos and as soon as he gets me a CDrom with them, I plan on posting them here and doing a write-up for the SCR.

We've also been invited to make use of their pool any time the Scouts are not using the facility!
