UK Pool Runs 7th July and 9th September 2007

    Well folks,

We have two pool runs on the agenda in the next few months.

Both of these are outdoor venues.

    The Hurst Community College,
    Baughurst,
    Tadley,
    Hampshire

    Date. Sat. 7th July.

Time. Open from 10-00 am till 3-00 pm.

Use of the schools swimming pool. (20m x 10m) all day. 3 pm finish flexible for your members if they wish to continue sailing.

Possibly share of pool with R/C Model Hovercrafts. Still to be confirmed.

Next up, we have the North London pool Run. This is now confirmed for the 9th September which is a Sunday. 11-00am until 5-00pm.

    Venue Trent park, Cockfosters, Middlesex.

    Pool size is about 30m x 10m.

There will be a charge for this I'm afraid, as I have to pay for the facilities.

£10 per entrant for the day.

Pictures of the Trent Park pool. Flyer, maps/directions to follow-

Well spread the news, the more the merrier.

Just to clarify, I am organising the Trent park pool run.

The Tadley pool run is an invite from the AMS (a nice bonus of cooperation with another organisation, are you reading this Clive and Alec?).

          A fly in the ointment

A fly in the ointment has appeared this weekend.

I've discovered that a show at Barleylands is taking place on September 8th and 9th.

A lot of active model submariners attend this show and I'm now very concerned this will have a big impact on the potential number of members attending. In short I don't fancy being left with a large bill to settle at the end of the day.

It also seems that most of the other weekends in September have events running.

Not sure what to do about this. Ideally, I'd have run this event this month, but that was too close for my liking.

          Suggestions?

            Andy,
dont take the risk - if necessary shelve it until next year, that way you wont be saddled with a huge bill and no insentive to run it a second time. If you can do it in august, that will do for me - but I'm also happy to wait until next year...

It looks like it'll have to be shelved methinks.

August is no good- the pool is still being used for swimming, plus a lot of people go off on their jollies during that month.

I have a couple of other ideas up my sleeve, will post them up when I have something firm in mind.

Shame, it was a nice convenient site for Londoners.

Paul, the Tour doesn't kick off till 3pm, so maybe you could stop at Taldley enroute?

Not a bad idea, Ramesh... However, the only this I love more than U-boats is? Yep, bike racing - I am there for the whole weekend. Pity that, but cant be in two places at once unless someone can perfect the gene-splicing technique by thursday week!

I agree Barleylands is a nice show.

Surprised to see such a low attendance of subs at Merstham at the weekend, only four or five boats there. Last year there were loads!

Location of last years sub run at Colney Heath- the present condition of the pond (a lovely pea green)-

Useless for subs- about two inches of visibility maximum. However the committee have finally agreed to purchase some chemicals which should clear the water of algae within a day or two once administered.

Therefore there may be an impromptu sub run this summer. I'll keep you guys posted.

Ah cool, hell with a shallow pond most subs last year were running at PD or just below the surface anyway.

Well the periscope is all you will see at the moment, if you're lucky!

It has been partially dredged since last year, and when the algae has cleared, we will see just how much gunk is left in the bottom- rather difficult to judge when you can't see the bottom.

Sorry to hear that the Merstham turnout was low.

I think you'll find more subs at Alsford because it is also the AMS AGM on the Saturday.

I will be bringing my R7 with new strong, lightweight superstructure (Thank you, Andy!) and my refurbished Charlie II.

                            See you there?
