I am having a busy building season myself. I am repainting my Scorpion and adding some of Jeff LaRue's photo-etched MBT covers and grill set this time. I may even "light her up" for night ops while I'm at it.

I have a Small World Models Kilo coming.

AND I'm working on a waterline static version of Revells Type-VII with the
drop in pressure tank resin add-on among other aftermarket bits.

Like Wayne I'll post progress photos but nothing like a "build" thread.
I encourage everyone to share too.

Definitely put the lights on Scorpion. We can have a multiple sortie. However, I can't imagine an improvement on your original paint job.

Trying something new for me

Trying something new for me on the U-Whatever here. Read about underpainting in FSM and thought I'd try it out. The idea is to paint a slightly darker color loosely along panel lines and features that will be mostly (mostly) covered by the "real" light grey color over top. Hopefully the result is a subtle effect of depth. Nothing subtle about it now though

This is a practice more commonly done on detailing aircraft. It represents the dirt that collects more along the panel lines because of grease leaking and what-not. Not sure how it would apply to a boat that's under water most of the time, but I've seen the effect on subs in drydock that are getting scraped and repainted. Anxious to see how this turns out—keep experimenting, that's how we all learn something new.

Ultimately I will apply a dirty wash and pastel weathering over the details
so whatever shading I achieve with underpainting will probably largely get covered in the end. So far I think it does add a little dimension but its hard to capture with the camera. Anything to break up that monotonous sea of grey paint I'll try.

Paul, the KILO is IN. You can officially update my "fleet" on the members
area at the Subron5 site. Sweet!

I may have been the last one in all of the Subron5 area but today I got one. The new Revell Gato of course! I find that spouses buy better birthday presents with early, often and SPECIFIC hints!

Here is a picture of all the current projects in chronological build order but in light of the new SunNFun date the Kilo moves to the head of the line.

I'm waiting on some electronics and tools to begin the Kilo. There are like
close to a hundred hull openings to ream out on her! Good grief.

The official start date is next weekend. Full on full-bore till we're are in the wet turning and burning. We can talk mods most effectively at the SunNFun I think buddy. Give me a list of materiel to bring

The u-boat has been cut down to the waterline and I have been doing some practice runs with the Sculpy on scrap boards trying to make convincing looking waveforms to simulate rolling swells. So far not so convincing but the technique is promising!

SNF '07 will be the PERFECT spot to locate and/or evict any bugs in your new Kilo WTC: it'll be happening fairly soon (can't wait!), and there's nothing like an in-person consult! Besides, as we once mentioned, you may not even HAVE the WTC difficulties my B'back had; Manley's work has evolved as he's gone along.

Tomorrow I start filing

Hey Fellers,

Tomorrow I start filing out all those hull openings on my Kilo and will be
concentrating on that until its running. I have been staying busy in the meantime working on my waterline version of the Revell Type-VII.
I am going to be making waves based on a technique I saw from Rusty White as he has written it up on the steelnavy.com website. I'm just applying it to a larger project. Essentially you form polymer clay (Sculpy) into wave shapes fire it in the oven, top it all with artist gel medium and then paint.

I've done a couple test patches before I dive in. I think I prefer the green
