USS Texas arrival in Galveston 9/4/06

    Guys,

A quick, short notice, heads up on the arrival of USS Texas tomorrow at Galveston for her commissioning ceremonies later in the week. She is scheduled to pass by Seawolf Park tomorrow morning, September 4, between 8 - 9 am. My family and I plan to run down and take advantage of the photo op from the park. Admission is $5 per car. I hear they plan to fire a salute from Cavalla as she passes. Should be pretty neat.
    Warm regards,

Here's a photo report of USS Texas arriving in Galveston today, along with some shots of Seawolf Park]http://www.warfish.com/subron5/images/texas/seawolf-1.jpg[/img]

As you can see there was quite a bit of haze and we were down-sun from the subjects. Texas followed, surrounded by many curious watercraft, a Coast Guard helo and two boat escort. Even the Lone Star Flight Museum had a formation of T-6s in the air.

There was quite a crowd at the park for Texas' arrival as well. A 21 gun salute was fired as she passed.

A new addition to the park is the sail of the Sturgeon class fast attack USS Tautog.

The sail is a pretty nice addition to the park.

    I also found a near 1]http://www.warfish.com/subron5/images/texas/seawolf-5.jpg[/img]

A close-up of USS Cavalla still serving proudly as a museum ship. The park itself is a memorial to the USS Sewolf (SS-197) lost during WWII. Seawolf is the lost boat assigned to the state of Texas.

All in all, it was a fun morning of sub watching!
