    San Marcos reconnoiter

[color=#000000]Well guys, took the family over to San Marcos to check out the sub running possibilities. Here is my review of the San Marcos river (on a scale of 1 - 5)]

    Sorry to hear that, Paul.

Sorry to hear that, Paul. I haven't been down there in years (like more than 12 years) and wasn't sure of the condition. I was hoping the underwater theater area was open because that would have given us an accessible area to run subs and people could sit and watch them from underwater. Oh well...

Thanks for taking the time to check it out,

    Carl

      Hi Carl,

      The underwater theater area

      Hi Carl,

The underwater theater area has not been maintained for a long time. The submarine theater is still there, but the rock stage on the opposite side has been removed. Permission could probably be obtained to go into the theater and view the river but there is no good place to launch or operate a boat at the theater. The thater itself floats 4 - 6 feet out of the water and there isn't a good place to launch boats from the platform. And the underwater vegetation is such that there probably isn't an unobstructed view in the "theater of operations".

Yes, it was a very disheartening trip from an r/c sub standpoint. Aquarena Springs is very much in between identities and as such is a pretty sad place to hang out. I had higher hopes for the river itself but the postive is heavily outweighed by all the negatives. I won't bother to make the drive over with a boat again.
      Warm regards,

        Paul,

Major bummer. I remember how excited "y'all" were when first discussing these locales as possibilities for this year. Me too.
Georgetown, here we come, then. Dates?

          I need to check out

I need to check out a couple of more sites I have heard of from the locals, but happy with the San Gabriel.
Last weekend a walked over to the pond next to my house and found R/C sailboat people had discovered the place. They go there 2 times a month.
I told them about the subcommittee and took a hull ove r to show them. (always recruiting).
This is where Paul ran the 688 the first time he came up. It is a 4 minute walk from my front door. A secondary location and test range for the deeply classified Akula prototype.....
