Blue foam

Hi all im just wondering where to locate/purchase blue foam.

You all no the type that you can sand to shape for placing between bulkhead's to create a mould and work from there.

The local hobby shop in aberdeen is useless they never have anything.all they cater for is planes and car's. I remeber onetime i over heared the owner saying that boat's and sub's are for boring people!!!! Surprised there still open!

A lot of us get that sheet foam from the local Home Depot (or equivalent). I've seen it in both a blue and a pink color, it just depends on which manufacturer the store is getting it from. They typically have 'broken' sheets that they will sell for a good discount. A half sheet (or less) will go a long ways!

No luck i have already tried them - Blue foam what's that oh we used to sell that but not anymore - why dont you use glasswool thats used in loft's!

Try to explain what it will be used for oh im sorry i dont understand. Im staying away from b&q for awhile.

What about a builder's merchant do you think one of them would stock something like it?

It's tough to find blue

It's tough to find blue and pink foam in the UK.

Also, don't forget, you can get away with using the softer white open cell foam, which you can find at builders merchants, just depends how critical you are.

Hi Adam. I would think you are on the right track with 'Builders merchant'. You can buy sheets that are used in the cavitiy between outer/inner brick courses (come in roughly 4' sheets. Or you can get the really dense stuff that is used as insulation under concrete floors - but this stuff is not cheap! ...!!! I mean it.

Also you should be able to find the blocks that are made to fit in between rafters for loft conversions.

Do you have a "Wicks" store any where near?

I do like the British

I do like the British WWII subs, but I haven't come across enough detailed pics to do one justice. Upholder is a good example. The problems are getting good views in the conning tower and all those interesting deck details.
If you do get a good set of plans you are doing well. The old "Warship Profile" (number 16) does a study of HMS Upholder, might have plans in it.

Ah, but surely the classic

Ah, but surely the classic sub has to be the type VII? A subject for another thread I am sure. I think I shall stick my neck out and say that the modern nuke shape must be easier to fabricate than the older WWII shape hulls.

I was looking at otw's

I was looking at otw's site. From what i have read on here and from what i see even in the photographs the otw's VII is fantastic a real credit to there line up.

It's also there fault im looking for a plan/bulkhead shape etc for Hms upholder.

(Because there Hms Upholder is really nice) And now i want one.

But only if i can scratch build it.
