Interclub Model Boat Day, Brisbane 20-Nov-04 - Subs welcome!

    Hi All,

The SSS (Sail, Scale & Steam) Model Boat Club is having an all-day regatta, including a night run, from 8am - 7pm on 20-Nov-2004. This will be held at our facilities on the large lake at the rear of the Boondall Entertainment Centre Complex on Brisbane's Northside. Food & drink will be available, with the lake also being surrounded by nice picnic grounds with BBQ's to cater for the whole family.

All are welcome! Come to sail or just to watch. Having a few more subs there besides the usual of Jim's Los Angeles and my Akula would certainly help us teach all those "targets" a lesson. Though we do tend to avoid the fast electrics ...

Pitty its in brisbane, sounds good. We need something like that in melbourne, I have found it exceedingly hard to find anything like that down here

        Hello to all,
        On behalf of

        Hello to all,
On behalf of many visitors, I would like to say thanks to the SSS Model Boat Club organisers as the regatta day held 20th Nov 2004 at Boondall, Brisbane was very enjoyable and the standard of RC Boats was awesome. The three 1/72 scale aircraft carriers (Enterprise, Yorktown and Sydney) were magnificent sites on the pond together along with fast electrics, scale fleet ships, tugs, submarines, etc. Could someone post a picture or two for our overseas SCM colleagues to share? All the best - and well done as I look forward to the next fun run (is this a US term for regatta?).
        Kind regards
        Andrew

          Thanks Andrew,

          I'm glad you

          Thanks Andrew,

I'm glad you had a good time I'll submit some more photos (mostly subs, of course!) to the main SubCommittee website under the events section tomorrow. We had 6 subs in total - Los Angeles, Collins, submersible, Akula, T-class, C-class - with a big thanks to the sub guys from the Sunshine Coast club for bolstering our numbers with their very impressive British boats.

At one stage we counted 138 people, all enjoying great fun, food and sailing. In particular, the night run was spectacular. Ash & all the others who also contributed made this day unforgettable for all.

Note that the Enterprise ran over my Akula shortly after I took this photo - they turned towards me while being filmed by the Channel 9 TV crew!

But here we kept a watchful eye on the big target, HMAS Sydney.

Bob the SubCommittee Webmaster has been super-quick in posting the 11 sub photos I sent in of the SSS InterClub Regatta - Brisbane 2004.

A few targets can be seen as well, and I certainly have to agree with Andrew that the modelling standard of the boats at the Regatta was excellent.
