Next SubRonLA Run on April 30th

Congrats to all participants on a very successful SubRonLA run yesterday. Ideal weather, pleasant conversations, fun ops, no lost boats and at least reasonably clear water—all good.

This communique is to announce our next squadron run is already slated for April 30th—the last Saturday of the month. Looking forward to seeing you at Yorba Regional Park again. Here’s hoping Steve and Tom will perhaps also be able to join us next time—but we fully understand how hard the gas situation hits you too in particular.

    Green board,
    Jeff

To bring this back to the top.

April 16th, Will, Mike and I were at the lake.
This was to test surface boats that had been modified to make sure they would be available as rescue boats should they be needed.

It was a good day but the weather was strange.
Cloudy and drizzling of and on.
Mike decided that he was not up to being out in the weather and went home without getting to the water.
Will and I did get boats in the water.
      Will brought two tub boats.
      Ran one.
      What a nice boat.
      Control was spot on.
The boat turned in it's own length.
Speed control was down to you could see the propeller turning but the boat did not move.

My Rescue barge with it's original brushless motor and a new speed controller also had the slow turning propeller back.
Checked for distance and was surprised that I could get to the other side of the lake and back.
The turning with the motor pod is quick and responsive.
Got to learn how to use the rudder stick more gently.
The barge turns when I think about it, before I move the stick. (slight exaggeration)

I have been rebuilding the cylinder for my George Washington.
I have been looking all over in the shop and house for an 8 channel Rx I know I have.
Then while I was charging batteries, the light came on.
I have several 4 channel Rx and 1 last 8 channel receiver.
Turns out I put the 8 in the rescue barge while building so I could test as I went along.
So I just need to remove it and put a 4 channel in the barge and I will have the 8 for the GW.

      Back to lake news.
Water was clean but not as clear as we are use to.
The lake is also in bloom with the thin moss that floats at all levels in the water.
And there is thicker moss and junk floating on the surface next to the shore edge.
Will plans to use his moss rake to clean a launch area.
I did not run a sub because of this moss issue.
Hopefully in 2 weeks when the group gathers, this moss issue will be better than today.

See ya all on April 30th.

It is the day before the gathering.

I have a sub and rescue barge ready to go.
Even gathered up the necessary tools.
Will load the truck later today.

April 30th. See ya all tomorrow.

Bummer, I will not be there. Sure do miss you guys. Please take a lot of photos!
If you can cut, drill, saw, hit things and swear a lot, you're well on the way to building a working model sub.
