    Next Run on March 12

    SubRonLA,

I am hereby unilaterally announcing our next run at Yorba Park to take place on Saturday, March 12 unless I hear major complaints to the contrary. (Selfishly so chosen because I’m busy on the 5th and the 19th.) By all predictions, COVID numbers should be seriously reduced by then. Also, that date still permits me to slip something about our event into the SCR at the last minute for the April issue. As usual, I’m not discouraging anyone from getting together to run there or anywhere else at any other time—I’m simply setting up our next recognized full-squadron meet.

Hope to see you guys there.

    Green board,
    Jeff

      Gate opens at 7am.
But lately people have been showing up a 8am.
Usually run until 11am to 1pm.

My rescue barge runs really well since going to a brushed motor.
However, this motor does not have any top end speed.
After looking the motor over it is not a high speed motor.
It is a medium speed motor with torque.
Not able top push other boats well.
The slow speed allows the pushed boat to turn in front of the barge and slid off the push bars.

Any way, the decision was made to go back to the original brushless motor I originally put in the barge.
It was removed because I did not have speed controller with a lower speed and they were glitchy.
The best speed controller worked really well except for one thing.
To go from forward to reverse or reverse to forward, I had to pause at natural for 2 seconds.
This was a disaster when pushing.
The pause allowed the pushed boat to drift away

Will did some testing at home and brought a complete system to show me on the bench.
Rx, speed controller, motor and battery.

The speed controller had full range from top speed to turning so slow a snail could go between the propeller blades.

The speed controller arrived yesterday and this morning I removed the brushed equipment and tested the brushless equipment.

Last two weeks I slowly put the brushless motor back in the propeller pod.
Had issues with getting water tight.
A little leak, here then there.

The leaks are where the PVC motor tube was bonded to the PVC rudder plastic.
I knocked the pod off the bench and I think the tube to rudder glue cracked and allows air to get through.
I have sealed all but 1 little spot.
To get it to leak I have to apply a little pressure tot he rudder post in to the pod.

I will finish sealing these leaks to day and tomorrow I will repaint the pod.
Should have the barge ready for the lake by end of tomorrow.
