May 1st (A long over due gathering)

A week ago, I received a message asking if there was interest in having a run on May 1st.
The message was sent to several sub drivers.
I waited to see who was going to respond.

Well, it looks like May 1st is going to be a run day.
Will Oudmayer is the one who sent out the message.
Jeff responded he might be there. He is still healing.
I responded and I see Mike Dory said he is in.

This gathering is not a private party.
It is an open invitation to anyone who would like come out, run boats, ask questions or just get out of the house for few hours.

It has been more than a year since SubRonLA gathered at the lake.
I look forward to see everyone.

May 1st is coming quickly.
I only have half a day, tomorrow and half a day Friday to get things ready.
Tomorrow, I will charge all the batteries after I decide what boats to take.
Friday, I will gather tools and load the truck.

What can I say, YOU do beautiful work. But it was always tough to fit my head through a door anyway!

My goal is to not just paint the Internet "SubCommittee", but the world too. Then it's on to Sol System and Galactic domination.

I checked weather because it is 96F right now.
Weather shows 75F at the lake tomorrow.

That sounds so much better than the 96F.

Truck is loaded.
Alarm clock set.
Going to take it easy the rest of the day.

Today at the lake.
Let's see if I can remember.
Some of this maybe incorrect.

6 boat captains.
Mike Dory, Type 212a and an Akula II
Will Oudmayer, A tug boat research vessel
Tom Chalfant, Walrus
Farlan Cutter, Barbel
Jon ???, two viking ships with rowers and a futuristic submarine. (Jon builds these submarines out of wood)
Ralph Fendley, rescue barge and Akula II

I ran my rescue barge to learn it's controls.
I ended up reducing the turning from 90 degrees to about 40 degrees.
While in the water, Jon ran both viking ships and then is submarine.
First rescue by my barge. Jon's sub lost main motor power.

After about 40 minutes I was out of the water.

Wanted to talk with the guys.
It has been over a year since it's been over a year.
About an hour or so I heard a call for help.
Another sub stuck off shore about 40'.
Tom's Walrus.
Will put his tug int he water and I put my barge in the water.
Will got there first.
The tub has more pushing power so I stood off.
The tub ended up riding up on to the deck of the Walrus.
The tug had gone out with out the cabin on.
Once the tug lifted up it was not able to push.
Will backed off and came to shore to have something done.
I move in and turned the Walrus straight with shore and then got in place and pushed the Walrus to shore where Tom was waiting to lift it out.

Tom opened the hull and found that one end of the dog bone had sheered off the 2 pins.
Easy fix at home on the bench.

This is only the second time out for the barge and now has 2 rescues scored. (Made building it worth it)

I learned I need to make some sort of seal for the push bars where they go through the deck.
The tilting may not be necessary.
More testing on that is needed.

Mike Dory's 212A was having control issues.
Will was handed the Tx and he re programed the Tx.
Within a few minutes, Mike's 212 was running perfectly.

Farlan had some questions on how to hook up a new key fob on/off electronic switch.
The item came with no instructions other than 2 little drawing with no words printed.
I think we got him on the right track to hook it up.

I did not run my Akula II.
Neither did Mike.

Day was warm with a total over cast. No direct sun shine.
It was nice.
