    August 1st Outdoor Fun Run

Today we had a non scheduled Fun Run at the pond. We all wore our masks and Social Distanced.
The weed monster was still present, but we were able to clear enough weeds to run.

Greg brought his HYDRA sub for sea trials, his new “Duck” target, and BD’s Toot with a new
fire Monitor. I brought the Robbe Seawolf, and Patti ran her FS1. Chris ran his tugboat (target).
Larry showed up and ran Greg’s new “Duck” target. Ed also showed up and visited for a while
before going back to work. A Fun time had by all.

    Here are some pics.

Looks like fun, Don! How did the Hydra sub run? Very cool boat.
    Warm regards,

unfortunately I had some radio issues with the hydra sub. I have an older ace nautical commander that I am using for the twin throttles and the rf deck had no range. Fortunately this one had a secondary deck in it that appears to work (at least on the bench) so by our next run all should be good.Greg

Sound good, Greg. Looking forward to hearing how she performs once the kinks are worked out.
        Warm regards,

Both Greg and I have the same Hydra hull, independent controlled motors in each side nacelle. His has a different rudder setup than mine, and more details on the deck. Mine runs well, had time last winter to get it tuned in the Y pool. There is a lot less reaction to the motors for steering than I expected, hence we both added rudders. The large stern planes and the flat vertical bow were most of the problem there, more Hollywood cool looking shape than engineered design! Next time at the pond we should have them both running together, hopefully. Both are dynamic divers, with pairs of 380 motors and three blade props. Hull ends are molded fiberglass, center sections are very thin ply over frames, with clear molded cockpits.
