Interest is again being expressed by our SubComMI squadron brethren up north in joining us here in So. Cal. for a two-day run in August as a rotating alternative to their annual Fall Fun Run in Golden Gate Park. Sounds good to me! Haven’t had these buddies down here visiting for awhile.
We are lucky here at SubRonLA in that our regular running pond at Yorba Regional Park—which is exclusively for model boat use—is open to us anytime, all the time (except at night, dammit). As such we aren’t subject to the fickle whims of city park officials, far-in-advance reservations, or a squatter angler club intent on keeping us out of the place—as they must usually deal with in San Francisco. Our only limitation is the necessity of arriving early at the site on our run days, since the park is popular and the pondside picnic tables—ideal for our boat setup and prep—go fast! (Of course, we can bring our own folding tables for boat prep and display as well, and we encourage later-arriving skippers to do so.)
With all that in mind, I’m going to just go ahead and decree that SubRonLA is now officially scheduling one of our regular runs on Saturday, August 22. If interest is indeed further shown in a two-day run, we’ll simply expand the date to include Sunday, August 23—and any interested out-of-town parties can go ahead and make their transportation and lodging plans at their convenience. Recall that since this is indeed L.A., arriving the day before, staying the day after, or simply planning to make good use of Saturday night will afford an opportunity to also take in local touristy stuff of interest while you’re here.
So mark those calendars, boys and girls. Remember, all you have to do is simply show up early to claim your spot at the pond with the rest of us!
Keep a level bubble, guys
Jeff
