Sam, I swear that place is cursed. Seems like every time I go I have an issue lol. The Akula never made it in the water. The ESC was giving some kind of error code that we couldn't find the answer to bc we were limited to using our cell phones for research. Turns out it might have been a low battery warning/failsafe, which I find odd because I topped off the batteries (or at least I thought I did) before I made the trek. I'll mess with it tomorrow and find out for sure. After the 4 hour drive back home I just need to chill for the night.

Low voltage for a lithium battery vs. a NiMH battery are treated differently by the Engel BL30 ESC.....as in if the ESC is programmed to think it’s connected to a lithium battery the minimum voltage to trigger the warning is pretty high. Since you are using a NiMH battery the low voltage cutoff should be diasabled.
I’m guessing that your battery may have dropped it’s voltage below that cutoff point. Which is why I suggested doing a quick charge of the battery to see if it suddenly starts working again.
