Kickoff pond run for 2018

Subron8 was off at the local pond today for our season kickoff of the RC submarine group's outdoor runs, big gathering and picnic, had several from Canada, Ohio, and West Virginia stop up for the day. No one drowned, and all the boats came back in too (couple drifted in but thats okay).

I took my sea turtle and killer whale subs (plus a truck) to run. The whale went quite well, as usual. The sea turtle had a new motor in it, more speed and power to try and get the performance up a bit. That worked out to be the case, so much so that it snapped the timing belt connecting the motor to the twin prop shafts! Sigh. Some redesign needed there!Anyway, here are some pics from the day:

It was cool and rainy in the morning, cleared up by lunchtime and got up near 70 later. We are near Rochester NY, lans of the wacky weather patterns. That sub is the Osler's, if I am thinking of the right one.

Yes it started out cold and rainy in the 50s but the water was clear and deep. As the day progressed it did warm up and dry out. All had a great time. Pond is in upstate NY and the weather has been oscillating between spring and fall so far this year.

Erich Kloss owns the Seawolf class number 22. I own the “Minion sub” which is a Robbe Seawolf.

I grew up in Buffalo, Don. That’s why I am allowed to b**** about the weather. . Very familiar with Rochester area as well.

No problems. This year the weather has been screwed up even for upstate NY. We started to wonder if winter would ever end this year. It was great to get out to the pond and be able to run before the weeds start growing.

BTW, if you get back to this area let us know. We could get together and run boats.

Screwed up is right. When I left Chili in the morning it was about 50 degrees and cloudy. I had hoped to get some beach time in metal detecting at Lake Erie on my way home. It was barely 55 there and way too windy. Not good hunting weather. Arriving home, it was almost 80 and sunny.
