SubRonLA Spring 2016 FunRun Underway THIS SATURDAY, May 28th

Haven't heard back from everyone on my prior thread, so am starting this new one as a reminder.

This Saturday, May 28, we are holding our annual SubRonLA Spring Fun Run at the usual spot in Yorba Park in Anaheim.

As of my latest information, the ops participant roster includes these individuals:
    • Will Oudmayer
    • Mike Dory
    • Tom Chalfant
    • Steve Neill
    • Ralph Fendley
    • Neil Schmidt
    • Jeff Porteous (yours truly)

We have not yet heard from previous attendees Alan Haskell and Darrin Hataway, but I will be pinging them shortly with an e-reminder to see if either will be joining us.

As Steve noted in an e-mail this week, it'll be Memorial Day Weekend so no doubt the park will be busy all three days. Early Bird Will usually shows up by 0800 or sooner, and I'll try to do the same, which ought to allow us to safely claim squatters rights on our favorite few picnic tables for setup. Remember, it's five bucks to get in.

Stay at PD with your antenna masts raised for further developments.

    Running hot, straight and normal,
    JeffP

Oh, yeah, looking forward to it!
If you can cut, drill, saw, hit things and swear a lot, you're well on the way to building a working model sub.

Okay, it's official: Just F.Y.I., Alan will be out of town this weekend, and Darrin is out of the country, so it'll be we seven on Saturday. Looking forward to seeing everyone at to pond!

Heard from Steve yesterday; he's suddenly and unexpectedly committed to working this weekend, so our happy little underwater band is now down to six. Bummer. But we'll try for an additional group run in the summer or fall so Steve can once again attempt to join us (especially if my own family responsibilities wind up keeping me from attending SanFran this year...all dates unknown at this point).

See the rest of you on Saturday!

Okay, so we had our six local members show up, and a fine, relaxed and quiet time was had by all at this easy-going event. Weather was perfect, water cloudier than usual but still not bad (and there was a specific reason for this regarding recent park practices which shouldn't be a factor next time). Park crews had actually cleaned up much growth along the banks of the pond, and Will arrived early and raked up additional seaweed from our specific running area by the little dock. Turns out Darrin hadn't been out of the country after all, despite his e-mail being tagged as coming from Reykjavik, Iceland. My mistake; found this out from Will. Darrin had simply been otherwise committed during the holiday weekend, and, as mentioned earlier, Steve Neill had to work the weekend and couldn't make it either. We hope both these gents will see their way clear to join us next time.

            Speaking of which...

"Next time" is now already planned for Saturday, July 16th—same Bat Time, same Bat Channel. Mark your calendars now. More reminders as we get closer to the date.

As for this time, it's always a joy to have Tom Chalfant drive in all the way in from Vegas with his family to join us. His Thunder Tiger was twitchy with battery charge problems and I'm not sure he ever got a decent run out of it. Likewise with Ralph's Skipjack: everything worked great on the bench, but out on the water she was not getting signal and had to be pushed in by my little Blueback, always eager to please. Mike Dory's and Will Oudmayer's boats were in and out of the water the whole time and performing well as usual, the big new U-boat looking especially grand. Neil Schmidt got in some stick time on my boat; I was only too happy to hand over the transmitter as he had just repaired its antenna! As always, it was just fun to catch up with the guys and make plans for next time in a lovely park setting on a wonderful day. Some pix are below. More, I hope, will appear in the Sept. SCR (too late for the June issue, out in a couple of days).

P.S. For some reason, the forum software is not letting me upload more photos, so this will have to do for now. Sorry. (Can't remove that one shot to rotate it either. What's up with that?)

Jeff, there are image quantity and file size limits for each post to prevent upload issues. Just add another post for additional images.
              Warm regards,

Only seems to take one shot at a time. Okay, I can play that game...

Still having trouble with some shots. As I mentioned, I'll put more in the SCR. Thanks for checking this out. Join us in July?

                          Thanks,

Funny. The photos upload, then appear on the thread onscreen, but don't appear at all when I check on them later—like now. Oh well. You got the idea, anyway...
