Tentative Upcoming SubRonLA Fun Run Date (May, 2016)

    Gentlemen,

I am behind by at least a month in proposing and organizing our annual local SubRonLA Spring Fun Run at the usual spot in Yorba Park in Anaheim. Last year we met at the end of April. This year it has been suggested that...

    Saturday, May 28th

...might work as a good day to scramble the So. Cal. squadron. Steve Neill and I are already onboard with this date. Any other takers? It does offer plenty of advance notice, but I do realize it is also the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend, and thus might not work if others already have holiday travel plans on their calendars. I'm therefore open to other Saturday or Sunday suggestions moving on into June.

Please sound off to me via e-mail if 5/28 works for you, or instead check in with a confirming or declining post below. If you'd prefer something else, sing out with an alternate suggestion so we can all eventually get on the same page with a meet date in the fairly near future.

    Running hot, straight and normal,
    JeffP

I am in with a disclaimer.
    ----------------------
I need to find a water leak in my truck before I can make an long trips.
So far I have not found where it originates from.
Today I start dismantling the exhaust system to get a better look.
    This is conditional.
Providing the wind slows down enough to not blow dirt and sand around.

Close all the windows. Attach a length of fuel tubing to a hole drilled in the cab and submerge the truck in water.
      Blow into the tube.
      Look for the bubbles.
      That is your leak.
No wait! That is for cylinders. Scrap that idea.
      Good luck anyway. BD.

        Thanks, Dave.
I spent the day removing parts so I could see better.
        Finally found the source.
        Between head and cylinder block.
        Between cylinder 3 and 4.
Started the removal of the head.
I have one bolt in the back I can get to but have not yet figured out how to get enough torque on the wrench to loose it.
A plan is in place to fix the head if it needs more than surfacing.
While I am at it, I will replace the timing chain and guides.
        The guides are really loose.
Normal for these old Toyota trucks.
        They're plastic.
I have to remove the timing cover to reset the chain.
Might as well replace what needs to be replaced.
No more on my truck project, here.
        ========================
Jeff, I do have another truck.
You set the day and I will be there.
        I have my Skipjack running.
Now if it will run at the pond!

Okay, that's me, Steve and Ralph. And Mike Dory and Will O. checked in today by e-mail -- so that's five confirmed so far. Let's keep this going... Guys?

My family and I will be there!
If you can cut, drill, saw, hit things and swear a lot, you're well on the way to building a working model sub.

                I wish!
                One can dream.

Sorry Ralph. Dummy me thought it was a roof leak. Lol
                You did not specify. BD

                  Dave, you are correct.
But it was just a small detail don't ya think.
A roof leak would have been so much easier to fix.

                      My truck is completely assembled.
                      Engine start up went good.
However, I have not been able to road test it yet.
I will be coming down in my second truck.
Without any miles on the repaired engine, I don't want to trust it that far from home.
I took this afternoon to make sure my Skipjack is functional.
Everything works on the bench..but isn't that always the case.
It's at the pond it has to work right.
Anyway, everything is good, just waiting on the on board battery to full charge.
Once charged, assemble the boat and hook up all the specially equipment lines.
These are not necessary to operate the boat but operate the twp Mast Gizmos.
The periscope looks like it will be no problem but the other masts may bind up.
If it does, I will just unhook the control lines.

So, once the battery is charge I will box up the boat and radio..(don't forget the radio)
Other truck is gassed up and ready to go.
I am going to see if I can get to the pond by 8am ...+-.

Just a personal opinion..... having this event only once a year is too far apart.
Two or three times a year would be more to my liking.

You guys have a great time today.
I hope it's cooler than here.
Will be 90 and possible showers here today.
We rarely see 90 in the summer.
Sorry Steve and Darrin can't make it.
I know Steve is always saying he has no one to run with, and now he does, and he can't make it.
                        It's not fare.
                        Post photos please. BD
Jeff, make sure Mitch behaves himself. Lol

                          mid 70s and sunshine.

                          Going out the door, now.

Event went well! I'll post a few photos on the other "...underway this Saturday" thread in SubRonLA. Note to Ralph: great to see you there! And we are by no means limited to one local meet a year, my friend. That's just how things happened to have gone in the past. Will and Mike run frequently on their own, actually. And you can post a call to arms here on the forum to scare up some running buddies any time you like. Nothing's holding you back; feel free to generate more interest all year long, whenever it suits your schedule... Those who can join you will, I'm sure...! Enjoy!

                            All the best,
