any planned meeting or group playing with our boats?

I live in west Covina. looking for fellow chapter members close by to see if we can get together for a boat run. I am finding my boat to be too long for most swimming pools. I cannot experience the full potential of the boat. however in a pond or lake, there is a great risk of losing it. maybe as a group, we can prepare better to deal with such situations. I checked out yorba linda regional park pond. had a nice run limited to the pond edges so I can feel sure that anything goes wrong, my boat is in sight.
I think there is a R/C pond area also at Cerritos Regional park. I have not been there yet. any one interested?

    Cliffhanger67,
There have been a couple of fun runs already at Yorba Linda and I believe another is in the planning stages. I was able to drive from Las Vegas to one of the meets and hopefully will be able to make the next one!
    PM Jefftytoo for more info.
    Peace,
    Tom
If you can cut, drill, saw, hit things and swear a lot, you're well on the way to building a working model sub.

      Cliffhanger67,

Welcome aboard! Be sure to send me your e-address so I can add you to SubRonLA's e-distribution list. Also send me your real world snailmail address so I can mail you your official welcome letter and SubRonLA patch.

SubRonLA is Southern California's official SubCommittee chapter, and we do have a section in the Chapters area of this forum you ought to check out once in a while. So far we haven't been very active as a group, but some local individuals are quite active (Will Oudmayer has been known to run his boats weekly, sometimes in the company of Mike Dory, and Steve Neill is forever building boats for himself and sometimes for hire), and we do have an annual chapter Fun Run in the spring at Yorba Park, which I see you've already checked out. The great appeal of Yorba Park is its transparent water. Yes, Will and others have run in the Cerritos pond you mentioned (I tried it once myself some years back), but the water there is usually opaque. Fine for skimmers or surface or even PD running if you're careful, but no good at all if you ever plan to dive.

Funny you should bring up your query now as it is about time for me to poll local members for thoughts on a weekend date for our upcoming annual So. Cal. Fun Run. I will be doing that soon and posting results in our Chapter section. We usually have it on a Saturday in April, though March is possible too. Let me know some dates which might work for you. In fact, any other SubRonLA skippers reading this post who'd like to chime in with potential Fun Run dates are encouraged to do so as well. I'm sure we'll get a mutually agreeable date picked fairly soon, then we can start making our plans and clearing our calendars. Personally, an April date would be my own preference.

As Tom C./"Salmon" noted above, he has joined us in the past and it's always great fun having him around. He'd also be a good guy for you to meet; he's something of a sub hobby ambassador in these parts! I do fervently hope he'll be able to participate in our run this year as well.

See you at our next run. Till then, "Good luck and good hunting."

Oops. Just realized where the above was posted. Guess I'm not used to navigating the new forums yet! Obviously, Cliffhanger already knows where to go to look for chapter info. (better than me!) -- sorry about that! Nevertheless, get in touch with your e- and snailmail address, buddy.

Reading this reminds me that I need to clean off my work bench and get my Skipjack issues fixed.
At last years gathering, the gear on my water pump slipped to the point the pump did not work.
I also had a receiver problem which I am sure is because I forgot to stretch out the antenna wire. ooops.

Once I get the Skipjack taken care of, I might look in to my George Washington.
It needs a different ballast bladder.
The blood pressure cuff bag is a little too small and pops the upper hull off the lower when inflated.
I think the cuff bladder material is too thick.
I have a plan on how to fix that.
A little Dremel work and a Saline IV bag might fit in there.

On Monday, I'll move the B-boat project and get after the other two boats.
I would like to have at least one working this year.

I have opened the Skipjack cylinder.
            Removed the pump and motor.
Working on fixing the pinion gear that slipped.
Also got larger ID tubing for the pump.
Made new larger diameter connectors for the tubing.

I had an issue last time with the main motor having far too much RPM.
I charged up the Tx and I messed with the Tx limits.
Got the motor to run at a more acceptable RPM.

In a day or two, this boat will be ready to go again.

In April I do have a couple of Thursdays, I can not get away from.
14th and 28th are spoken for.

I think it is time to make plans and so everyone who might attend can see if their schedules will work.
