I understand this is extremely short notice for pretty much everyone...

    but...

For anyone that might be in the area.... I and another member of "The Colorado Crew" have the opportunity for a quick run, so we took it. I will be taking some submarines down to Blue Hole, Santa Rosa, New Mexico this weekend. I will be there saturday from about noon thru sunday about 3pm... Happy to have anyone join us. PM me, and i can give you my Cell # for contact...

      Tim,
      No under water photos?
That water is so clear, what a cool place to run a sub. I see you had a little wind, other than that what was the result of the day? All run O.K.? Does 433 like that water?
      Inquiring minds want to know!
      Peace,
      tom
If you can cut, drill, saw, hit things and swear a lot, you're well on the way to building a working model sub.

I have already posted a pretty lengthy response to the same questions over on subpirates. the only downside to the whole thing is that the spring fed water in both the grotto and the pond seems to have a pretty high mineral content. 433mhz radio (which is all i have now) loses signal at about 2 feet down. other than that, the Lake Park pond is fantastic for model subs. It has a really nice pier, crystal clear water, with underwater visibility of about 100 feet, and at this time of year, our group were the only people at the park. - there were about a dozen divers at Blue Hole.

other items of note: several reasonably priced hotels as close as four blocks away, 3 or 4 diners, and 3 fast-food joints, all within 2 miles of the the park.

I have uploaded a bunch of youtube videos

            sculpin at park

            sculpin at blue hole

            holland at park

            delta at blue hole

            blueback at park

4 minute gopro from delta at blue hole

a 12 minute of the gopro on the Delta

and finally, a 3d gopro, which you may or may not be able to watch - depends on whether your browser will show you the video in anaglyph or side-by-side. if your browser only allows for anaglyph, you'll need red/green glasses - this is actually a duplicate of the shorter 4 minute video above

Link does not go to any photos.

It goes to a page for uploading files.

Wow that water is clear. If the radio interference turns out to not be a problem, that would be a great location for a FunRun.
May looks like a good time of year (http://www.usclimatedata.com/climate...tates/usnm0293)

the weather in october was fine... not too cold, but not hot either. according to your link, september looks as nice as may... we need to find out what months are big scuba diver months... we don't want to have to fight for hotel rooms.

Looking at this on Google earth, it appears the issues are hotel room availability.
                            Not interfering with the divers.

The pond you ran in appears to be a recreation pond with a couple of holding ponds a couple of hundred feet to the east.
The Deep hole the divers dive in appears to be about 1000' to the east of the recreation pond.
In fact the dive hole appears to be plus or minus 90 across as to the 400plus in the recreation pond.

                            Do, I have this right?

Also looking on Google earth, there appears to be several of these water holding depressions looking south.
They also look to be fenced in and gated.

                              Ralph,

the lakes in Santa Rosa are either spring fed ponds, or spring fed sink holes, all fed from the same spring. according to PR at Blue Hole, there are seven "sister" ponds/sink holes that are all interconnected. "Lake Park" is basically the city park, and therefore is not the diving mecca that Blue Hole is... but i think any of us that go there for a fun run will want to at least try Blue Hole. bragging rights require it. according to the signage posted, Blue Hole is 61' across, 81' deep. Lake Park is the only pond that is "drained" in the winter. i have pictures from february that show it about 250' across. Basically the entire 125' pier is visible out of the water, so the water is drained about 5' from the level it was at last week. the two ponds between lake park and blue hole have signage naming them "Santa Rosa Pond", and they are in fact one pond, the wall separating them is basically a earthen dam with a small 10' bridge allowing the water to pass between the two areas. Its primary use is listed as fishing... and both in february and october, at least a dozen people were there with poles. not recommended for subs, especially with Lake Park so close. It is, however, just as crystal clear as the other two ponds. the set of ponds to the south of blue hole are named "Twin Lakes", and they are also used for fishing and diving... but they aren't as clear as blue hole.
