Possible new sub run venue in Antioch CA.

Hey there fellow Mare island members.

Our good friend Phil Weber in Antioch said he just may have a lap pool in his area available for us to use as a new sub run venue that is 40ft wide x 80ft long x 3ft deep in the shallows to 6ft deep on the opposite end of the pool. This pool could truly be ideal due to its proximity to the bay area, plus should any one have a mishap they can dive in to the rescue. Phil said he has spoken to the counsel that controls the pool about the idea of us using what he calls (aka. Lake Weber) for our runs, they did not seem to have any issue with the idea of electric powered boats running in the pool which is largely un-used from the months of September to May.
Phil will approach the counsel again to clarify and get their blessings.
So cross your fingers and twirl around three times for good luck that it all will go well.

I will keep you posted in the next couple of weeks.

I am waiting to hear from our friend Phil Weber on the news of our group using the large lap pool for our sub runs. I hope to have some news for you all soon.

Great News everyone!

Our friend Phil Weber has just gotten the letter from his HOA that we have permission to hold our boat run in their large community pool!
We are going to work and set up a date for the first of what we hope will be many quarterly runs at this pool. If all goes well we will convince the HOA of letting us have access to the pool during the off seasons from the Fall to next Spring as well.

I will be back in touch with the boat run date as soon as possible. So start dusting off your boats. Yippee!

The date for the first pool run has been selected by our good friend Phil Weber. It will be held on Saturday June 13th from 9AM in morning until noon.
So start tuning up your boats. Please RSVP me at dmarquez1250@gmail.com so I know how many of you are expected to attend.

The start time is from 8AM to 11AM.

The location is: Hillcrest HOA Pool the address 2217 Wildflower Dr. Antioch, CA.

Hi Gang,

We held our first pool run in Antioch on June 13th, it was a small gathering of a few notable Mare Island member attending, Yours truly from Sacramento, Lance Ellison from Brentwood, John Kinkele from Petaluma Of course our pool host Phil Weber and our new up coming submarine modeler Jerry Patrignani who brought along his brother(Sorry, I don't recall his name.) Mark Jones unfortunately could not make the run due to family obligations.
We set up at the club house using the cover out door patio area to keep our boats out of the sun.
We then found out from Phil Weber that the pool water is salt water pool not chlorinated as expected, so the boats lost signal after going a few feet deep.

This was not as much as a problem as we thought it would be but being a salt water it makes our boats were far more buoyant than they were trim out for.
The first run went well until disaster struck my Engel Lafayette, it took on water and started sinking stern first. I got my boat out quickly and open it up to drain. I inspected it to ascertain what happen. When I seal up the boat bayonet ring I did not notice that the main ballast feed tube from the stern bulkhead had become loose and disconnected from the central feed pipe so salt water came pouring into the dry space soaking everything from the aft bulkhead to the ballast tank.
So that was that. I left the tech rack out to expose it to the air and dry out. Subsequently a few days after the incident I ran some check out test to see what might have been damaged, It turns out the piston tank motor micro switch relays blew out, so I had to replace them, tank work fine. But worst was the drive motor Robbe Rokraft ESC. It actually caught fire and smoke came billowing out from behind the tech rack bulkhead. Fire on board a submarine! Scary!

So I installed a new Pro Boat water proofed ESC in its place of the burnt out Rokraft. The motor works fine now.

In spite of the incident that I have suffered, we will defiantly have more pool runs in the future.
