    Upcoming changes

As part of the ongoing effort to improve member benefits and participation in the SubCommittee, the Executive Committee has evaluated and approved a number of actions that go into effect on March 1, 2016. These changes reflect the changing nature of what it means to be a member as well as some fundamental improvements brought about by the implementation of the new forum software.

The new forum software has made it much easier for both members and non-members to share information, especially photo intensive build postings. This has understandably resulted in a reduction in SCR article contributions. The impact is now large enough that there is a very real possibility that there will not be enough material to support the current publication rate of four issues a year.

With this in mind, the following changes are related to the SubCommittee Report and intended to encourage a higher level of participation by the membership:
    • Beginning with the next issue of the SCR, we will begin compensating contributors to the SCR. The SubCommittee will pay $15.00 for each article submitted and published. Articles eligible for payment will need to meet minimum publishing standards.
      • Note: the regular columnists for the SCR will remain as uncompensated volunteers.

    • There will be an annual award for the best articles published. First prize will be $150, second $75, third $50.
    • To make it easier for our smaller vendors to reach their target audience, the annual advertising rates will be changed to:
      • Level I Vendor Member $15.00 (web site banner ad)
      • Level II Vendor Member $40.00 (banner ad + four 1/2 page SCR ads)
      • Level III Vendor Member $80.00 (banner ad + four full page SCR ads)

    • In addition, one time SCR ad placements will also be possible:
      • 1/2 page ad for $10.00 full page ad for $20.00

The Executive Committee is also in the process of working with an individual to create an index of all 100+ issues of the SCR. Once completed, this index will be made freely available in the SubCommittee Report section of the SC forum.

Finally, with the greatly reduced operating costs of the SC, the annual general membership rate will be $10.00 starting March 1, 2016.
