    658 Hotel SSBN

The Hotel (Project 658) SSBN was the first opertaional Soviet nuclear missile submarine. It shared the same twin VM-A reactor plant with the November SSN and Echo SSGN classes. The ill-fated K-19 was the lead ship. Initially equipped with three R-13 missiles of 350 nm range and the D-2 launch system, which required surface launch. Later upgraded (Hotel II) to the 755 nm range R-21 and the D-4 launch system, which permitted underwater firing of missiles. The three missile tubes were in the extended sail, very similar to to the Golf SSB design. Only 8 were built.
