    Partners get US$8.4bn multiyear contract for Virginia class
    General Dynamics Electric Boat of Groton, Connecticut, has entered into an US$8.4 billion multiyear contract with the US Navy (USN) for the procurement of five Virginia-class attack submarines from Fiscal Year 2004 (FY04) to FY08. Altogether Electric Boat - a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics - and its team-mate, Northrop Grumman Corporation's Newport News, now have contracts to build 10 Virginia-class boats.

    DCN to play key role in second French carrier
    French President Jacques Chirac last week assured state-owned warship builder Direction des Constructions Navales (DCN) that it will play a key part in building a second aircraft carrier following the government's decision not to build a nuclear-powered ship.
