Russian SSBNs return to sea after refit
The Russian Federation Project 941 Akula-class ('Typhoon') nuclear-powered ballistic-missile submarine (SSBN) Dmitriy Donskoy (TK 208) has completed an initial six-day sea trial following its major modernisation refit at the Sevmashpredpriyatiye yard in Severodvinsk.

Middle East patrols continue at reduced intensity
US-led naval operations in the Middle East are now concentrated on maritime interception operations (MIO), supporting the 'global war on terrorism' and the continuing occupation of Iraq.At the height of Operation 'Iraqi Freedom' in March and April 2003 over 150 US and allied warships, support vessels and chartered merchant ships were operating in the US Central Command zone. The number has now fallen to 20-30 ships on average, according to coalition naval officers in the region.

Crash leaves Canadian peacekeepers without UAV capability
Canadian peacekeepers are temporarily unable to provide an unmanned air vehicle (UAV) capability to the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Kabul following the crash of a sixth Sperwer drone.

Swiss invent new g-suit for German Typhoons
An entirely new g-suit, invented in Switzerland and produced in Germany, has been selected by the German Luftwaffe for the Eurofighter Typhoon. The Autoflug Libelle G-Multiplus suit is already qualified and in service with MiG-29 and F-4 squadrons because the first operational Typhoon aircrews will be drawn from those squadrons. It is being tested by US Air Force (USAF) Air Combat Command under a Foreign Comparative Testing (FCT) program.

Libya ships nuclear weapon material to US
The process of removing weapons of mass distraction (WMD) from Libya has begun, with 55,000 lbs (25,000kg) of "critical materials related to Libya's nuclear weapons programme and ballistic missile capabilities" now held on US soil, according to White House spokesperson Scott McClellan.
