Navy Divers Ready to Raise Sunken Russian Sub in Providence River

Even after this week's storms, dive teams say they are finally ready to raise the sunken Russian submarine from the Providence River Friday. The Navy says they are ready to get the sub off the bottom of the river where it has been sitting for more than a year now.

The Russian vessel sank during a powerful Nor'easter in April of last year. She is now 50 feet below the surface, stuck in the mud. The Juliet 484 was a hands on museum visitors could actually climb through. The non profit company didn't have the money to to raise the sub so the Navy stepped in and they are raising it as a training exercise for their divers.

But they've had a few setbacks, including weather and a few other other small problems. The sub is nearly 300 feet long, and it's only one of two submarines on display outside the former Soviet Union.

The people in charge say they will have to look at any damage to the sub to assess whether it can be used as a museum again.
