    Navy Dedicates New Sub Simulator

    Published on 7/13/2008

Groton - The Navy dedicated its first Fleet Interactive Display Equipment Training Simulator of a Los Angeles-class submarine's nuclear propulsion plant July 1 at the Naval Submarine School.

”The Fleet IDE harnesses the power of computer technology to improve and enhance the skills inventory and the effectiveness of our sailors,” said Capt. Richard “Hass” Moyer, commanding officer of the Submarine Learning Center.

Adm. Kirkland Donald, director of Naval Nuclear Propulsion, attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony. The Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program developed the simulator, which provides operators with a realistic, real-time depiction of actual conditions for a range of normal operational and simulated casualty situations.

The Naval Submarine School in Groton is the first facility to receive a Los Angeles-class submarine simulator. Two other simulators, serving the Ohio class submarines, are already in use at the Trident Training Facilities in Kings Bay, Ga. and Bangor, Wash.
