GROTON, Conn., Feb. 18 (UPI) -- U.S. company General Dynamics said Friday its Electric Boat subsidiary had won a new submarine repair order.

"The U.S. Navy has awarded General Dynamics Electric Boat a $25.4 million contract to perform routine maintenance and modernization work on the USS San Juan -- SSN-751 -- a Los Angeles-class attack submarine. Electric Boat is a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics," the company said in a statement.

"Under the contract, Electric Boat will perform a Docking Restricted Availability, which consists of repairs, maintenance work, alterations and testing. The work will take place at the Naval Submarine Base in Groton; it is expected to be completed by May 2008. The contract has a total potential value of $28.7 million if all options are exercised," General Dynamics said.

General Dynamics is based in Falls Church, Va., and has a global staff of 83,500. It had 2007 revenues of $27.2 billion. The company describes itself as "a market leader in business aviation; land and expeditionary combat systems, armaments and munitions; shipbuilding and marine systems; and information systems and technologies."
