Looking for tips/tricks on Nichimo 1/200 I-19 kit

OK, I got one of the Nichimo I-19 kits! I've found a couple of reviews on the internet, but I'm looking for some more detailed info. For example, I've got to think that some of the parts could stand being replaced with wire or plastic card, like maybe the diving planes (please excuse my terminology; I'm more of a "target" kinda guy).

Anybody got any construction/update/accurizing tips or tricks for this kit?
