A few of these SSNs remain in service with the Russian Federation Navy. They are contemporaries of the Akula class. The Sierras are distinguished by their sale shape and the fact that the hulls are made of titanium rather than the steel of the Akulas. The 945 and 945A have slightly different forward edges to their sails and 945A has small end plates on the stern planes.
