Visit to Small World Models - photos posted

Last weekend, while visiting family in San Diego, I took the opportunity to drop in on Dave Manley to see the headquarters of the mighty Small World Models Industries.

We had a mini-regatta in his pool when Mike Dory showed up with his Blueback and Steve Vick and Dave's pal Joe had subs in the pool. Dave showed me his WTC system that he will be selling soon to install in the new Revell type VII that looks pretty slick. It uses bulkheads rather than a cylinder and two teensy motors to run the thing. Very neat! Steve Vick is building a hybrid - combination bulkhead/cylinder to put in his Revell VII. Right now he doesn't have the guts in ti - just the tube and walls, but stay tuned!

Dave also showed me how he retrofitted working sailplanes on his Blueback using a gear setup. I have posted some shots of this stuff on my website along with a picture of a quickie PVC carrying tube I made to lug my Blueback onto the plane. Other than a couple of grins from the TSA agents as the sub went through the X-ray machine and "Does it really go underwater?" queries, I got it on board no problemo.
