I would like to start a discussion about pumpjets.
The advantages and disadvantages, and the different approaches from different countries (united states,england,russia,others?).
As I understand it,the advantage is stealth and efficency.One disadvantage,and I may be incorrect,is the manuverability is not as good as a screw driven boat. I seem to remember hearing Thor's Seawolf took some tuning , initally, to keep the pumpjet itself from trying to steer the boat.
The fixed stators seem highly influential to the final function. In looking at the Kilo pumpjet,and the Trafalger design,they have no "aft",or post impeller vanes. Is that a disadvantage vs. the american design? I will guess the shroud has some to do with compression also, and the angle is probably somewhat critical.
And the impellor itself,how is it different from a propellor?
