Arkmodel 212 build question

I have the kit, for anyone who has built one, do you cut out the entire flange where the front and back hulls meet? Not a fan of the locking rings, I may use sliding tubes and then secure with bolts. If I do this, I can leave most of the plastic flange. Anyone have an opinion? At work, so can't post pics.
