DARPA Distant Thunder NetSAT Project: (Whiteboard Explanation)

While not exactly "submarine specific" in and of itself, it gives us "situational awareness" of what Friendly/Foe Submariners face out there with today's tech.

DARPA the Defense Advanced Research Project Agency was testing a revolutionary littoral water system that performed better than expected. It was called "Distant Thunder," a reference to the rumble it made when transmitting.

Formally named NetSAT, it was a network of acoustic sensors that could be deployed from a standard cargo container from any ship anywhere in the world.
It built a three-dimensional image of the waters space around it and classified contacts as they transited through the area. NetSAT is disposable and is not recovered after use.
