This series of boats are a further evolution from the Yushio class that came before it. They are slightly larger with better noise control. One of them was modified to test AIP which was finally realized in the Soryu class recently. there are 7 still in service.They are rated at 7200 SHP and can make 20 knots submerged. Dimensions are 87 meters long and 2850 tonnes(metric). Thats 285 ft. long and 2804 tons submerged. To give you an idea the American Barbel was 219 ft. long and weighed 2637 tons submerged.
