Hi All,
Just joined the forum after several attempts, thanks Ronald! I worked in a hobby shop in the 1970's and just put my hand on a load of "new in the box" r/c kits from the 1970s and other items like a crafted 54 inch mahogany Chris Craft Runabout and 3 Santa Barbara 70 inch sailboats. The owner of the shop had closed up in the 1980's and then fell into poor health and passed on about 9 years ago. His workshop had been untouched since then. I was home for Christmas holidays, I contacted his wife, (who is also our neighbor) and she said whatever is there is mine. One of the cool items, that I remember from the shop, is a SMB Technik's U-47 U-Boat kit. It has a 1.35m (52 inch) fiberglass hull with a pile of wood for the deck and superstructure. It is still in it's original box, priced for sale at $50! I know it's from 1979 based on the newspaper date that it is packed in the box. Is anyone familiar with this kit? I have 5 sheets of plans, all in German, that I will have to translate, and it's in my queue of kits to work on, about 4th in line. There is no running gear. I have been away from the model boating hobby for 30 years, so I'm looking forward to jumping back into the water so to speak and this looks like a great webpage. I'm from "the other side of the periscope", some 3,000 plus hour as Tactical Coordinator on US Navy P-3 Orion subchaser aircraft with tracking time on numerous subs from around the world. When I'm ready to start on the kit, I hope I can get some good advice on parts and pieces and about the kit itself from the experts around the world who might be familiar with it.
