I have a model of the George Washington class SSBN, Patrick Henry. The boat has always been painted in the standard black/ red primer configuration, but I recently saw a film clip of one of the very early G. Washingtons in the older navy paint scheme, with haze gray on the sail and missile deck. I'm thinking that maybe I'll repaint the ship to match it's early (as built) paint job. Does anyone have any info regarding the time frame for the early grey/black/red paint job? When did the navy switch to a full black sail/missile deck paint arrangement? Can anybody point me in the direction of a drawing or photograph of the old paint job?
